Halo: Fireteam Osiris (Music Inspired by Halo 5: Guardians)

by Luke Nemitz

In 2016 I began watching no commentary playthroughs of games on YouTube that I thought looked cool. I had been out of gaming for a while and can't remember really why I started to watch them, but so glad I did. Halo 5: Guardians was the second one I watched and I specifically remember a moment in the game where you ascend a large staircase running to a ship at the top and the music got me and I loved it instantly. I very quickly searched the composer and orchestrator and found Kazuma Jinnouchi and Nobuko Toda and messaged them to tell them I loved that particular moment -which in the album is the second half of 'Worldquake'.

Since then Jinnouchi's score has been my most repeated album and I still listen to it very often.

Permanence: A Halo Story is a sort-of love letter to that score and Jinnouchi's work on it, while also being a postlude to Halo 5: Guardians following Fireteam Osiris into the events preceding Halo: Infinite (whatever they might be as of the posting of this video).

Jinnouchi's work continues to be inspiring and very wonderful and I hope he has an opportunity to hear this and know what an impact his music has had on me.
